Asking about quantities: How much? or How many?
Reminder: to talk about large quantities, we use many + countable noun (books, glasses, etc.) and much + uncountable noun (water, luggage, money, etc.).
Many restaurants are closed on Mondays.
There isn't much chocolate left.
To ask questions about quantities, we use:
- How many + countable plural noun (generally ending in -s).
-How many languages do you speak? -I speak 3 languages.
-How many days are in a week? -A week has 7 days.
- How much + uncountable noun (food, money, time, water, etc.).
-How much coffee is there in the mug? -Not much.
-How much luggage do you have? -Just one bag.
We also use how much + is/are To be, present simple tense to ask about prices.
-How much is this wallet? -It is 45 pounds.
-How much are these t-shirts? -They are 15 pounds each.
