The simple future tense

The simple future tense is formed as follows with verbs ending in -are-ere or -ire:

Parlare
Io parlerò
Tu parlerai
Lui/lei parlerà
Noi parleremo
Voi parlerete
Loro parleranno
Leggere
Io leggerò
Tu leggerai
Lui/lei leggerà
Noi leggeremo
Voi leggerete
Loro leggeranno
Dormire
Io dormirò
Tu dormirai
Lui/lei dormirà
Noi dormiremo
Voi dormirete
Loro dormiranno

Leggeremo il tuo libro al più presto.

We will read your book as soon as possible.

Finirò il corso il mese prossimo.

I will finish the course next month.

Note that the a of -are verbs becomes an e in the future tense, giving the following endings: -erò, -erai, -erà, -eremo, -erete, -eranno.

Parleremo con il capo a giugno.

We will speak to the boss in June.

Here are a few words and expressions we use with the simple future tense:

Domani scriverò una mail al direttore.

I will write an email to the manager tomorrow.

La settimana prossima guarderò la tua tesi.

I will look at your thesis next week.

Presto finirò il libro.

I will finish the book soon.

Note: we can use the expression stare per + infinitive verb to express that we are about to do something in the near future.
