Irregular verbs in the present tense: e → ie
Some verbs change their stem from e to ie in the simple present:
Pensar → Pienso
Pensar → Pienso
Querer → Quiero
Querer → Quiero
Mentir → Miento
Mentir → Miento
The full conjugation table is as follows:

Él/ella/usted piensa
Nosotros/as pensamos
Vosotros/as pensáis
Ellos/ellas/ustedes piensan
Tú pierdes
Él/ella/usted pierde
Nosotros/as perdemos
Vosotros/as perdéis
Ellos/ellas/ustedes pierden
Tú sientes
Él/ella/usted siente
Nosotros/as sentimos
Vosotros/as sentís
Ellos/ellas/ustedes sienten
Some common verbs that follow this logic: empezar (to start); cerrar (to close); preferir (to prefer) and despertar (to wake up).
¿A qué horas empieza la película?
What time does the film start?
Lupita prefiere el vino blanco al tinto.
Lupita prefers white wine to red wine.
Normalmente me despierto temprano.
Normally I wake up early.
Note: As you can see in the conjugation table above, these verbs stay regular in the nosotros/as and vosotros/as forms.
