There is和there are用来表达某物的存在或者出现:

There's a problem. 这有一个问题。

Is there a mall in this town? 这个镇子里有购物广场吗？

There were twenty people at the party. 这次聚会上有20人。

注意:
• 在非正式用语里，there's后面有时会跟复数:

There's lots of pretty girls around here. 这附近有许多漂亮女孩子。

这个表达也可以: • 与助动词一起使用

There will be a winner. 会有一个胜利者。

There must be a mistake. 这里肯定有错。

There is no time to lose. 没有时间来浪费了。

• 与某些普通单词一起使用

There seems to be a problem. 看起来是个问题。

There happened to be a storm. 正巧有暴风雨。
