Dear all, I'm Italian and I live in Rome where I work as a language teacher, I teach French as a foreign language. I always thought that I could speak English in any situation because I've been learning English for several years and I can read an English newspaper or a book. But when my daughter introduced to me her German boyfriend Ronny, I discovered that my English vocabulary was really very poor and, most of all, that I couldn't always understand what my nice German son of law was trying to tell me. Ronny and my daughter are leaving for Munich and Ronny doesn't speak any French or Italian, I don't speak any German, so.... English is our common language. The only subject in which we didn't have many problems was the weather (my vocabulary is really very rich in that subject) and we spent several moments talking about "how sunny Rome is today" and " how cold Munich was last winter". It was really frustrating. But one day, reading Le Monde, I discovered Gymglish and I decided to try. First for a month, then for one year, then for two years. Every day I learned new words and I laughed listening to Delavigne family's funny conversations. Everyday my oral comprehension was improving because I wanted to know the new Delavigne's story. In other words my English has improved much more than it did in several boring years of study at school. Now I can talk with Ronny, discuss with him and even..... fight ( in a good way, don't worry) with him if I don't agree with his ideas! Thank you Gymglish.
