I’m a semi-retired, 64 year-old American expat living in Finland since 1986. I speak fluent Finnish and have passed the DELF B2 at the Institut Français in Helsinki, having rigorously prepared for the exam over a period of a couple of years. I studied French at school and then left off after university, but returned to it when I began cycling and traveling in France. Since then I have studied mainly on my own, but I have done several 1-2 week intensive courses in France, well as participating in both group courses and one-to-one courses on line and face to face. I do all this purely for my own edification and because of my attraction to France, its history and its culture. I do now have a French daughter in-law and half-French grandchildren, but that is a coincidental and recent development. As for Frantastique, I turned to it having exhausted every level in both Duolingo and Babble, neither of which offer anything beyond B2 to challenge someone as proficient as me. They also lack the AI component that this online program provides. It’s also infinitely more adaptive and entertaining, in my opinion.
