I am Ariel Sanchez, an Argentinean audiovisual producer currently living in France. I always liked French culture and especially cinema, from directors like Éric Rohmer, Agnès Varda, among others. I met my wife in Buenos Aires and we decided to come to live in France, which is why (some time before coming) I started (and still am) studying French. When I arrived I noticed that many of the things I had learned did not apply. I don't recommend not to study in the traditional methods, but I found it very difficult to match with the local culture, especially to relate to it. From going to a store to adapting in a family conversation. And although my current level is intermediate, it was not only because of that, but because I realized that the courses I was taking and still continue to take were very good for general learning but were not updated to the current language. So it was very difficult for me to use correct language. To distinguish when something was formal or informal since there are “unofficial” ways of speaking that can easily occur in an environment as formal as the “official” language being taught. I started looking for alternatives to complement my course and I found a cartoon on Instagram that caught my attention. I got in, did the level test, started with A2, that is, I did not have to torture myself again to just say and learn “Bonjour” but it was not an incomprehensible level either. And above all very funny, it breaks with traditional logic. It is a story that mixes culture, official speech and colloquial speech, well explained and above all fun. I highly recommend it.
