The tens from 10 to 100
10 = zehn
20 = zwanzig
30 = dreißig
40 = vierzig
50 = fünfzig
60 = sechzig
70 = siebzig
80 = achtzig
90 = neunzig
100 = hundert / einhundert
When forming numbers from 10 to 100, unlike in English, the single-digit unit comes before the double-digit unit. When using the digit 1 in one of these numbers, we drop the -s off eins.
31 = einunddreißig
thirty-one (literally: one and thirty)
85 = fünfundachzig
eighty-five (literally: five and eighty)
Note: the number 100 can be spoken as hundert (a hundred) or as einhundert (one hundred).
