The imperative of dire

The verb dire (to say, to tell) is irregular in the imperative.

Dire
(tu) di'/dì
(lei) dica
(noi) diciamo
(voi) dite
(loro) dicano

Di' a tua sorella di scendere per favore!

Tell your sister to please come downstairs!

Dite ai vostri amici di prendere l'auto!

Tell your friends to take the car!

Verbs that are formed from dire (to say, to tell), like benedire (to bless), maledire (to curse), predire (to predict) and contraddire (to contradict), follow the same conjugation pattern as dire. Note: for the verb ribadire (to reiterate), -isc- needs to be inserted in the tu (you), lui/lei/Lei (he/she/formal “you”) and loro (they) forms.

Predire
(tu) predici
(lei) predica
(noi) prediciamo
(voi) predite
(loro) predicano
Contraddire
(tu) contraddici
(lei) contraddica
(noi) contraddiciamo
(voi) contraddite
(loro) contraddicano
Ribadire
(tu) ribadisci
(lei) ribadisca
(noi) ribadiamo
(voi) ribadite
(loro) ribadiscano

Benedici questa casa.

Bless this house.

Ribadisci il concetto, perché non è chiaro.

Spell out the concept again, because it isn't clear.
