Irregular imperative: verbs ending in -gar
In the imperative, verbs ending in -gar are irregular with the pronouns usted, nosotros/as and ustedes, adding a -u- after the -g-. These are the conjugations:
Apagar en
(usted) apague
(nosotros/as) apaguemos
(vosotros/as) apagad
(ustedes) apaguen
Llegar en
(usted) llegue
(nosotros/as) lleguemos
(vosotros/as) llegad
(ustedes) lleguen
Cargar en
(usted) cargue
(nosotros/as) carguemos
(vosotros/as) cargad
(ustedes) carguen
Apague la luz, por favor.
Turn off the light, please.
Carguen las maletas.
Carry the suitcases.
Other verbs that follow this pattern are pagar (to pay), obligar (to oblige), entregar (to deliver) and pegar (to stick).
Note: some verbs ending in -gar have a second irregularity in their root.
Jugar → Jueguen en el jardín.
To play → They play in the garden.
