Underneath is a synonym of "under" but is less common; it is not used figuratively:
underneath the chair below, under the seat
under pressure feeling compelled, obligated, strongly encouraged to do something

- "What are you doing on the floor, underneath your desk?"
- "Come and sit with me underneath my Christmas tree"
- "Susie : The past three days I've come into work, I've found Jean underneath my desk."
