Definition

to give somebody a shot: to give, to administer an injection to somebody; to inject, to vaccinate somebody noun
Shot has many other meanings. It shouldn't be confused with to shoot at someone to fire a gun at somebody - to take a shot at the goal (in soccer) to attempt to score a goal - to have a shot at doing something to try to do something.
I went to the doctor's office to get my shots. He gave me all the vaccinations I need for my trip to Africa.
