The verb to head is usually used to express the idea of movement towards a specific destination:
-If you are headed across the desert you might want to buy a camel. -No we are going to head in the other direction.
to head up the hill to ascend, to climb up the hill
to head north to go North or towards the North
- "On highway 80, eastbound traffic is backed up all the way to the Bay Bridge, so if you're headed across the bay this morning, you're out of luck."
