Glossary of education terms
Here are the main terms used for the different parts of the education system in English:
nursery school
pre-school (US), day-nursery (UK)
kindergarten (US) is a class for children of 5 to 6 years old. In Great Britain, it is sometimes called 'creche' or 'nursery school'.
grade school, elementary school (US), primary school (UK) is a class for children of ages 6 to 12 years old.
junior high school (US), secondary school (UK) is a class for children of ages 12 to 14 years old.
freshman year is the first year of either high school or college in the US.
