Stressed pronouns (moi, toi, etc.)
singular | plural | |
---|---|---|
1st person | c'est moi (it's me) | c'est nous (it's us) |
2nd person | c'est toi (it's you) | c'est vous (it's you) |
3rd person | c'est lui♂ / elle♀ (it's him/her) | ce sont eux♂ / elles♀ (it's them) |
We often use stressed pronouns:
- After c'est (it's):
-Who's the most beautiful? -I am (literally “It's me!”)!
- Before subject pronouns such as je (I), tu (you), il (he), etc. in order to emphasize the subject:
Your brother is really funny, but (you) you're annoying.
- After prepositions such as à (to), avec (with), chez (at/to the house of), pour (for), etc.:
This book belongs to him.
-Are you having lunch with us? -No, I have to go back to my place.
- After et (and):
-How are you? -I'm good, and you?
- After a verb in the imperative:
Get washed!
