Possessive pronouns

Possessive pronouns replace the repetition of a noun preceded by a possessive adjective (i.e. ma + voiture). The English equivalent is 'my one', 'mine', 'her one', 'hers', etc.

Je ne trouve pas mon téléphone. Tu peux me prêter le tien (= tu peux me prêter ton téléphone) ? I can't find my phone. Can you lend me your one?

These pronouns must agree in gender and number with the nouns they replace.

mon / ma le mien la mienne
ton / ta le tien la tienne
son / sa le sien la sienne
notre / notre le nôtre la nôtre
votre / votre le vôtre la vôtre
leur / leur le leur la leur
♂♂♀♀
mesles miens les miennes
tes les tiens les tiennes
ses les siens les siennes
nos les nôtres
vos les vôtres
leurs les leurs

Victor a une belle voiture, mais je préfère la mienne. (La mienne remplace ma voiture, féminin singulier.) Victor has a beautiful car, but I prefer mine.
- Ce sont vos enfants ? - Oui, ce sont les nôtres. (Les nôtres remplace nos enfants, masculin pluriel.) -Are these your children? -Yes, these are ours.
