Verbs ending in -ir with past participles ending in -u

The verbs tenir (to hold), venir (to come), courir (to run) and vêtir (to dress) have past participles that end in -U. To create them, remove the -IR and add -U (tenir → tenu, venir → venu, courir → couru, vêtir → vêtu). They are conjugated in the passé composé in the following way :

J'ai tenu
Tu as tenu
Il a tenu/elle a tenu
Nous avons tenu
Vous avez tenu
Ils ont tenu/elles ont tenu
venir en
Je suis venu
Tu es venu
Il est venu/elle est venue
Nous sommes venus

Ils sont venus/elles sont venues
