Verbs ending in -re or -r with past participles ending in -u

The verbs lire (to read) and boire (to drink) have past participles that end in -u. To create them, retain the first consonant of the verb only and add -U (lire → lu, boire → bu). The same goes for pouvoir → pu (to be able), savoir → su (to know), taire → tu (to keep quiet), and devoir → dû (to owe/ought to).
