Indirect object pronouns: te, lui, leur, etc.
Indirect object pronouns replace nouns that follow verbs + à, like demander à (to ask), dire à (to say to), écrire à (to write to), parler à (to speak to), téléphoner à (to call), etc.

I am calling Betty → I am calling her.
The indirect object pronouns are as follows:
Singular | Plural | |
---|---|---|
1st person | tu me parles (you speak to me) | il nous parle (he speaks to us) |
2nd person | je te parle (I speak to you) | il vous parle (he speaks to you) |
3rd person | je lui parle (I speak to him/to her/to it) | tu leur parles (you speak to them) |
Notes:
• In general, indirect object pronouns are placed before the verb, including in the negative form.
-Are you talking to me? -No, I'm not talking to you.
- Me and te are shortened to m' and t' respectively before a vowel or a silent h.
-Are you writing to me? -Yes, I'm writing to you.
• We use lui to replace masculine and feminine nouns.
Anna says thank you to Theo. → Anna says thank you to him.
